Prevelo crank lengths are custom sized for each size bike to make sure little riders have optimum pedal ergonomics. And they have ultra-narrow Q-factors to match the narrow hips of young cyclists. If that sounds like technical mumbo jumbo, here's the point - Prevelo cranks will help make small riders more comfortable and efficient on their bike.
The Zulu Four features Prevelo's signature confidence inspiring geometry. Prevelo geometry utilizes a low bottom bracket that lowers the center of gravity of the bike and rider, making for a more agile and confident ride. The slack front end makes the bike forgiving to young trail riders experimenting with tough terrain.
Microshift Advent X with 10-speed Microshift Advent X G-Series 11-48T and easy to use trigger shifters gives progressing riders plenty of gear range to tackle a variety of trails.
All Zulu Fours are equipped with tubeless ready tires and rims, so you can ditch the tube, reduce flats, and get a more comfortable grippier ride. Bikes ship with tubes installed and will need to be setup tubeless by you or your mechanic.
"My son was empowered riding the ZULU, and now he could climb the steep trails at our local single track and mountain bike for real. Our rides have gotten longer and more adventurous, and ZULU has taken all the slams with grace and little scuffs. I highly recommend the Prevelo ZULU for anyone looking for a kids bike that will foster a love of mountain biking and be solid to pass down for many kids’ uses."
Getting your kids the right size bike is important and, fortunately, also easy. You just need two pieces of information about your little rider:
Children who are learning are more sensitive to bicycle height than children who already know how to ride a bike. If the rider is new we recommend erring on the side of a smaller bike. If the rider is experienced and confident, it is OK to err on the side of a larger bike.
We include ride age as guidance for our bikes as a quick reference. But because riders of the same age can have very different sizes, inseam is a more reliable size indicator than age.

"If you are looking for a trail bike that can handle climbing and descending on mellow rides as well as some serious single track that will test the skills of any kid, the Zulu line-up has you covered."
We bought the PreVelo Zulu 4 for our nephew's 9th birthday. He loves the bike, and it fits him great. A quote for his first ride: "All Right!!" The Zulu 4 is exactly what we wanted: a high quality mountain bike that fits a 9 year old boy. We are very impressed with the obvious quality of the bicycle and definitely feel we got what we paid for, and are extremely glad we bought the bike for him. The only possible negative comment about the bike is that the front brake hose line appears to stick out forward of the bike a bit. Perhaps the hose is a little too long, or perhaps it is just a routing issue with this one bike. Not a problem at all, but is something we noticed. Thank you, The Stone Family
This is the best kids hard tail mountain bike I've been able to find for under $1000 for my 9 year old son. The geometry on this bike is dialed for young riders! Low stand over and low bottom bracket equals more confidence and ability to control the bike. Correct width handlebars get your kid in a good riding position and improves handling. My son has been having a blast since throwing a leg over this bike. It's light enough for him to climb on real single track trails and built for shredding back down. Hydraulic disc brakes give him plenty of stopping power and keep his little hands from getting sore and tired. Real air fork, grippy tires, crisp shifting and plenty of gears to keep up with mom and dad. I'd recommend this bike to anyone looking to get their kids out on the trails! Thanks for making a proper mountain bike that works for the groms!
This bike is great! In addition to a kid-specific fit, the bike features rivals most modern adult mountain bikes - hydraulic brakes, sealed bearings, air fork, and 1-by drive train. I love that my 9-yr old can get out on the trails with a lightweight bike and shred with me. I searched for months at all the typical retailers looking for a high-end kids bike - nobody makes one that is sub-$1500. This bike is expensive, no doubt, but you get what you pay for. Compare the Zulu 4 weight to any other kid bike and you'll be surprised.
This review comes after my eight year old has had seven months on his Zulu Four. He loves it, and his riding has taken off. The bike has endured the abuse an eight year old can dish out. Rims are true, no issues with the components, it was a good purchase. Jacob was great to work with on the bike, we did the first 11x42 build (it looks like the new version is built this way) and that gearing allows my kiddo to climb things he walked up before. We’re living in an era of great kiddo bike options, and Prevelo hits the sweet spot of solid engineering, a good component spec and value in price. It should be at the top of your list for your young shredder.
Decided on getting the ZULU Four Heir for our 11yr old boy. His old ride was a Felt 24 inch and was heavy, really heavy. After watching him struggle to keep up and wrestle with the weight I started looking for a lighter ride with quality components. I looked at Spawn, TC, and a few others. My opinion was that Prevelo offered good quality at a good price so I got it. It arrived as promised and was packaged really well. The instructions are very clear and can be followed by anyone successfully. The supplied allen wrench didn't fit the bolts, but no biggie. Plenty of tools around with this being our youngest. The front caliper also didn't have the spacer installed IAW the instructions but, since no one had squeezed the lever they fit smoothly on the disk. Other than that the bike was already set up as far as derailleur adjustment, tires aired, and fork was preset for him to a T. He has been on several rides already. 3 serious rides and many around the block rides. Bike has met all my expectations and he is on a serious curve now that he has a bike that can perform. His confidence has exploded! I am very happy with Prevelo and will recommend this to anyone looking for a serious ride at a great price point. I really hope they offer a ZULU Six soon when he is ready for a 26.
